"We want to provide every underprivileged student with job-ready digital skills"

What is a Digital Navigators/Indigitech workshop?

An interactive daytime event (1-3 days), followed by online support and exclusive platform access throughout the year. With Digital Navigators workshops, we aim to increase exposure and participation in ICT and STEM education in schools and digital literacy in the wider community.

Through these workshops, we encourage engagement by prioritizing culturally responsive pedagogy and relevant mentors/guest speakers. We want students to see themselves reflected in the subjects, learning, and industry so they feel it's a real option for them - whatever their background.

Ensuring the underprivileged thrive in a digital world

Research into Computer Science education has revealed the following:

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I sponsor a Digital Navigators workshop?

Please contact us to discuss sponsoring a Digital Navigators workshop, by emailing codecamp@codeavengers.com. We facilitate camps throughout the world, with a special focus on students who are underprivileged, have limited access to technology and/or have limited exposure to learning within STEM, ICT and computer science fields.

What do you mean by ‘workshop’?

Digital Navigators workshops are facilitated during the day only, typical camps are 1, 2, 3 or 4 days in length, hosted by a school or community centre. As camps are conducted in the community (supporting the local area), there are no accommodation provisions - camp participants attend during the daytime only, for the duration of their camp.

Are Digital Navigators workshops just about coding?

In addition to computer science and coding we cover a broad range of tech skills, our camps emphasize teamwork, leadership, developing confidence, creative problem-solving skills and making new friends. Through an integrated learning approach, Digital Navigators workshops support STEM, ICT, creativity and job-ready skills.

With our online learning platform Code Avengers provides game-based learning for K-12 students to build key skills including computer programming, critical thinking, digital literacy, and problem-solving, through the use of story-based, engaging online courses and activities. Younger students learn how to logically sequence events, create playable games, and model real situations. Students transition to learning programming languages, such as JavaScript and Python and web languages such as HTML5 and CSS3, or build their theoretical knowledge with our Computer Science and Design courses.

Can I request a Digital Navigators workshop for my school/community?

Absolutely, reach out to us at codecamp@codeavengers.com with your school or community details. We'll be happy to discuss your needs and create a custom itinerary for a single or multi-day workshop.

Can I host/facilitate a Digital Navigators workshop?

We support individuals and organizations around the world to become Code Avengers certified facilitators, enabling them to run Digital Navigators workshops with their local community. Most workshops are physically hosted in a school with local students, with the ages of the students and size of the workshop depending on their needs.

If you would like to become a Code Avengers certified facilitator, or discuss hosting a Digital Navigators workshop near you, please get in touch with us codecamp@codeavengers.com

What are some of the activities at Digital Navigators workshops?

Digital Navigators workshops are a blend of cross-curricular, project-based learning, which provides students and teachers with hands-on experience in creating digital outcomes using different technologies. Students might participate in hands-on (unplugged) problem solving, STEM and computational thinking tasks, while also learning (online) sequencing skills and game making, web or app development and more. Where needed, our workshop facilitators will run training with local teachers in advance of the workshop, to build lasting capability with teachers who may be supporting students during a workshop, and beyond.

Where are Digital Navigators workshops available?

We facilitate Digital Navigators workshops all around the world! The Code Avengers online learning platform is available in multiple languages, with additional language support growing. We have schools and districts around the world enjoying learning with Code Avengers, ensuring students everywhere have access to relevant content that meets and exceeds the expectations of their curriculum.

What ages are Digital Navigators workshops for?

The most common age group for Digital Navigators workshops are between 10 years and 18 years, however, we have facilitated workshops for younger students, and adults too. Each workshop can easily be modified to suit different levels of knowledge and technology use.

What are the benefits of participating in a Digital Navigators workshop?

Digital Navigator camps aim to bridge the digital divide and excite young people about pathways into tech careers. Studies have shown that people with ICT and STEM skills are more flexible, creative, and can take advantage of a changing workplace and new jobs.

Some participants have never used a computer before their camp begins, their engagement begins their journey toward digital literacy and the possibility of pathways they wouldn’t otherwise have access to. Other participants already have a love for technology but lack understanding of how ‘using’ a device could become ‘creating’, and a sustainable future for themselves and their community.
